The Prior Lake softball team earned a split in its first two South Suburban Conference games, giving up a total of 20 runs and scoring 21.
The Lakers (1-1 overall) were handled by Bloomington Jefferson April 11, falling 14-5 at home to the defending Section 3AAA champions.
Prior Lake, the defending Section 2AAA champs, went into the game off a 16-6 home win over Apple Valley April 9. The Lakers exploded for nine runs in the first inning and led 9-1.
Complete stats for both games have not been made available.
In the loss to Jefferson, the Lakers fell behind 8-0 after two innings. Prior Lake cut the margin to 8-4 after four innings. But the Jaguars continued to pull away.
The Lakers had no answer for Kylie Macziewski, who finished 4 for 5 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs. Jefferson starter Krista Flugstad struck out 13 in a complete game.
Junior Deanna Wibbens started for the Lakers and took the loss. The Lakers' first two runs came on bases-loaded walks from sophomores Justus Perry and Angela McBeain.
Against Apple Valley, Prior Lake 12-3 after three innings and was up 14-3 after four innings.
The Lakers are home April 14 versus Bloomington Kennedy and again April 16 against Burnsville in a pair of league games at 4:15 p.m.
The Lakers are at Edina April 17 in non-conference play at 4:15 p.m.
