Kenzie Sexe will shooting for history this spring for the Prior Lake girls golf team.

The senior is aiming to become the only female Laker golfer to compete in three straight Class AAA state tournaments. She tied for 10th last year and was 12th as a sophomore.

Sexe and senior Sam Kraft bring experience to the girls team. Finding two other scores will be the key for coach Corey Carney's team. The Lakers have only three seniors with Madisyn Anderson being the other one.

Sophomores Erica Braun and Hannah Enck and juniors Hailey Schultze, Laney Chmielewski and Anna Schmitz are expected to contribute to the squad.

"I'm curious to see how this season will play out," said Carney. "The top-two spots on the team might be one of the strongest we have seen play for Prior Lake. Kenzie is coming off of a top-10 finish at the state tournament and Sam's game is looking really solid during practices and the first couple of matches we have played.

"Laney has a lot of experience playing on varsity," added Carney. "She shot a 90 at sections last year, which is about what we need our third and fourth scores to be if we are going to be competitive with the better teams in the state. Erica and Madisyn will be key elements."

The Lakers' first tourney was April 11 at the Faribault Invitational at Faribault Country Club. Prior Lake had a team score of 389. Sexe led the team with a 78, followed by Kraft with a 92.

Anderson shot 109, followed by Ench (110), Schultze (119) and Schmitz (124).

The Lakers also had a nine-hole dual with Lakeville North April 14 in the cold weather at Crystal Lake Golf Club. Kraft led the Lakers with a 40.

"Sam's career best 18-hole score in competition is 83, so this was a very good nine-hole score for her under normal conditions, but considering the cold and blustery weather they played in her score was exceptional," said Carney.

Sexe didn't play in the dual. She will play Division I golf next year at the University of Kansas. Last spring, Sexe joined Lane Dulon and Kelsey Onkka as the girls program's two-time state qualifiers.

Both of Sexe’s state finishes are the best between the three players. Dulon was 18th as a junior (2010) and 59th as a sophomore, while Onkka was 22nd as a senior (2003) and 53rd as a junior.

The Lakers own invitational is April 22 at The Wilds starting at 11 a.m. The first SSC tourney is April 23 at Valleywood Golf Course at 10 a.m.

"The sixth position on varsity is still up for grabs," said Carney. "We will use a rotation of players for the sixth spot. We will have a solid team this season. I have a feeling we might see some great scores from all of the girls."
