The Prior Lake baseball team's run in the Section 3AAA tournament fell two wins shy of the finals.

The third-seeded Lakers went 2-2 in their four playoff games, but saw their season come to a close June 2 with a 6-4 loss to eighth-seeded Eastview in the loser's bracket at Alimagnet Fields.

Prior Lake needed to win that game and beat top-seeded Lakeville North right after to get a shot at second-seeded Bloomington Jefferson in the finals. The Lakers would have had to beat the Jaguars twice to earn the program's first-ever state berth.

When Prior Lake lost 6-3 to sixth-seeded Simley in the quarterfinals May 26, the Lakers needed to win six straight games to claim the title. They won two in row - 1-0 over seventh-seeded St. Thomas Academy May 28 and 6-3 over fourth-seeded Burnsville May 29.

The Lakers had a nine-game winning streak during the regular season, so winning six straight was certainly not impossible. But Prior Lake struggled a little to end the regular season, winning just two of their last seven games before the playoffs and went 4-9 in their last 13 games.

Prior Lake finished 14-10 overall in Greg Nesbitt's first season as coach (12-5 in the South Suburban Conference).

In the playoff loss to Eastview, Prior Lake got off to a tough start falling behind 3-0 after one inning and 5-0 after three frames.

Prior Lake tried to come back in the sixth inning scoring four times, getting a two-run double from senior Zac Repinski and a two-run homer from junior Nick Vaage.

But Eastview got a run back in the bottom of the frame and closed the Lakers out with a one-two-three seventh. Prior Lake had just five hits off Eastview starter Marcus Frederickson, who fanned 11 in a complete game.

Senior Andrew Gabbard took the loss for the Lakers. He went three innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits. Senior Austin Truso gave up a run in 2 1/3 innings, while Repinski got two outs.

Senior Blake Weber had a double and a run scored for the Lakers. Senior Jon Houston was 1 for 2 with a run scored.
