For the second straight year, Kara Lattery was recognized as one the best at her position.

The senior catcher on the Prior Lake softball team was named first-team, all-state by the Minnesota Fastpitch Coaches Association. She led the Lakers to the Section 2AAA title game this season, but the Lakers fell short of earning a second straight trip to state falling to New Prague.

In 2013, Lattery helped lead the Lakers to a runner-up finish at state, hitting .515 with 10 doubles and 22 RBIs. This past spring, Lattery hit .485 with seven homers and 28 RBIs in the regular season (stats for the seven playoff games are not available).

Lattery will play Division I next year at South Dakota State University. She was one of five South Suburban Conference players named first-team, all-state. The other four were Lakeville North's Jessica Meidl, Erika Rozell and Michaela Zins and Bloomington Jefferson's Krista Flugstad.

Meanwhile, Prior Lake sophomore Justus Perry was named second-team, all-state for a second straight year, while junior Shaye Barton was selected to the third team.

Other SSC players on the second team: Eastview's Kerrigan Hoshaw, Jefferson's Kylie Macziewski, Rosemount's Anna Hinderaker and Lakeville North's Katie Parker

SSC members on the third team: Jefferson's Linnea Carlyle and Kate Deming, Burnsville's Becky Gigstad and Rosemount's Nichole Johnson.
