Congratulations to all the High School Teams who participated in the 2014 Minnesota State High School BASS Championship on Whitefish Lake in Cross Lake, MN. Teams from all over the State of Minnesota competed for the opportunity to qualify for the BASS High School National Championship, with thousands of dollars in scholarship money in 2015. The days before the event included strong storms, heavy rain and windy conditions. The morning of the tournament began with thick fog which cleared into a clear sunny day perfect for fishing. As the early afternoon began, the teams returned to Moonlight Bay Restaurant for the weigh in. The day did not disappoint as every team returned with a limit of fish. High Schools in the tournament included teams from Roseville, Orono, Wayzata, Lakeville, Brainerd, Edina, Prior Lake, Forest Lake, Minnehaha Academy, St. Paul Central and St Cloud. Several of the schools had multiple teams registered for the event. Congratulations to the first place team from Prior Lake of Mason Raveling and Ben Provost. The team was able to land a combined bag of largemouth and smallmouth bass, their five fish limit totaled just over 15 pounds. This was their first High School Championship and they had a great showing. The expectations are high for these two young men as they move on to represent Minnesota at the National Championship. In second place was the team from Edina of Nick Montilino and J.R. Brauer with just under 14 pounds including the tournaments big bass at 3.69 pounds. This was Nick Montilino's second top finish in the last two weeks, recently winning an event at Lake Waconia two weeks ago. They also qualified for the National Championship. In third place was the Orono team of Jake Gilmer and Sam Personius, the team made a difficult trek through the early morning fog to the far end of the lake, but upon arrival were rewarded with a limit of quality fish in the first hour. Their limit was just under 13 pounds and qualified them as the third team to move on to the national events in 2015. This is familiar territory for the Orono team as they finished in second place at the High School Championship in 2013. The fourth place team was also from Prior Lake, which included the experienced team of Jack Kons, and Adam Ramsey. They finished with just over 11 pounds and will be the alternate team should one of the top three be unable to attend in 2015. Congratulations to all the teams who participated and big thank you to Moonlight Bay Restaurant and Whitefish Lodge in Cross Lake, MN. As well as the Minnesota Junior BASS Federation Nation, Berkley, Pure Fishing, MG Lures, Rat-L-Trap the BASS Nation Happy Hookers adult fishing club, all the boat captains and other volunteers. Watch for event photo's in the near future
