Conrad leads Lakers at Nationals

Takes 27th overall with an average of 24.38 targets out of 25

Blake Conrad was on top of his game July 14-19 at the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation National Championships.

Conrad earned one of the highest-ever finishes by a Prior Lake trap shooter finishing 27th overall in the junior/senior championships. He finished with a score of 195, which is an average of 24.38 targets hit out of 25.

Conrad was one of 11 Prior Lake shooters competing in the annual event held at the World Shooting & Recreational Complex Sparta, Ill.

Other scores for Prior Lake: Corey Compton (179, 22.38), Brandon Gill (174, 21.75), Haleigh Lewis (174, 21.75), Sam Schafer (173, 21.63), Tom Peterson (172, 21.5), Tyler Michael (169, 21.13), Matt Gill (167, 20.88), Gavin Willox (166, 20.75), Austin Warren (164, 20.5) and Nate Nicholas (159, 19.88).

This past spring, Prior Lake earned a top-10 finish in the first-ever Minnesota State High School League state tournament.

The event was at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake with 24 programs competing in the team competition and 100 shooters in the individual tourney.

The Lakers were ninth in the team tourney with a score of 459. Buffalo won the title with a score of 489.

The 24 teams in the tourney qualified based on their finish in their respective class at the Minnesota Clay Target League State Championships in Alexandria. Nine teams qualified from Class A, followed by five from Class AA, four in Class AAA and three each from Classes AAAA and AAAAA.

Prior Lake finished second in Class 4A behind St. Michael-Albertville.
