The Prior Lake boys hockey team will have its largest representation this fall in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League.

The three Laker skaters who will compete for Team Southwest are senior Will Reedy, sophomore Kevin Fellows and junior Matt Denman.

The Elite League was founded in 2007 to give the state’s top players another way to find top-flight competition and exposure without leaving their homes or missing all of the great experiences that high school hockey provides. Training camps are held in August with games September through October.

There were eight teams in the league this fall, one from Wisconsin and seven from Minnesota, including a team from Colorado.

Reedy will compete in the Elite League for a second straight fall, while it will be the first experience for Denman and Fellows.

Overall, there are 15 South Suburban Conference players in the Elite League. Lakeville North has the most with six, followed by Prior Lake's three. Burnsville has two, while Eagan, Eastview, Lakeville South and Rosemount each have one.

Defending Class 2A state champion Edina has the most representatives with seven.

In his first varsity season last year, Fellows was second on the team in points with 23 (12 goals, 11 assists). Reedy finished with nine goals and 12 assists, while Denman, a defenseman, finished with two goals and 13 assists in his first varsity season.

Prior Lake finished 11-15-1 last winter, losing in the Section 2AA semifinals for a fourth straight year. The Lakers were fifth in the SSC with a 9-8 overall mark.
