Prior Lake’s Lara Schultz used several big swings to end Eagan’s winning streak.

The junior outside hitter had 11 kills and four digs as the Lakers (5-1, 1-0) defeated rival Eagan 25-19, 25-22 and 25-14 on Thursday night in a South Suburban Conference matchup at Prior Lake High School. The Wildcats (6-2, 1-1), No. 3 in the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association’s Class 3A rankings, entered the match with three consecutive victories.

Schultz, who leads the fourth-ranked Lakers in service aces (14) and is second on the team in kills (65), turned up the pressure in the third set, striking the ball with a little extra force and playing along the net with aggressive effectiveness.

“Lara is a terminating hitter,” Prior Lake head coach Mike Dean said. “She’s someone that, when we need a kill -- and she’s out there -- we know that she’s going to be able to put a ball away for us.”

Sophomore outside hitter Anna Martin, who played a solid game along the net for the Lakers, called Schultz a great player and leader.

“She’s a great motivator,” Martin said. “She keeps everyone going and keeps us all fired up.”

Junior outside hitter Ella Francis led Prior Lake with 14 kills and finished with four digs.

Senior libero Brittany Luethmers had 24 digs and freshman standout CC McGraw, an outside hitter, added 17 digs for the Lakers.
