Lakers Dunk the Field

The Prior Lake girls swimming team dunked the competition at its own invitational Sept. 12.

The Lakers won eight of 12 events, including two of three relays in finishing with 575.5 points. That was 100 more than runner-up Mankato West, while St. Peter was a distant third (268).

Marshall was fourth (208.5), followed by Simley (179.5), Austin (156.5) and Shakopee (150).

Juniors Lauren Harris and Alex Spinner each won two individual events to lead the Lakers. Harris was tops in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.91 and the 100 backstroke (1:00.66), while Spinner claimed the 200 individual medley (2:15.94) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.63).

Ninth-grader Madison Shimek won the 100 freestyle (55.78) and was second in the 200 freestyle (1:59.16). Eighth-grader Skylar Welle was tops in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.86) and runner-up in the 200 individual medley (2:20.42).

The 200 medley relay team of Harris, Spinner, Welle and junior Sally Stark was victorious (1:53.38), as was the 400 freestyle team of Harris, Shimek, Spinner and junior Maggie Andersen (3:42.93).

The 200 freestyle team of Welle, Shimek, Andersen and sophomore Elizabeth Heile was second (1:47.02).

In diving, junior Jamie Kimble was second for the Lakers with 332.10 points, while junior Brooke Manfred was fifth (297.25).

Sophomore Claudia Mahoney was second in the 100 freestyle (58.44) and third in the 100 backstroke (1:04.32). Andersen was third in the 500 freestyle (5:32.49) and fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:04.84).

Other top-five finishes: Stark in the 50 freestyle (4th, 26.51) and the 100 backstroke (4th, 1:05.54), sophomore Christina Berg in the 100 butterfly (4th, 1:05.99), sophomore Sara Sepehr in the 100 butterfly (5th, 1:09.37) and senior Grace Halpenny in the 500 freestyle (5th, 5:55.05).

Others: Halpenny in the 200 freestyle (7th, 2:10.88), eighth-grader Maddy Mjoen in the 200 freestyle (8th, 2:12.65), seventh-grader Jaden Clark in the 200 individual medley (7th, 2:31.64), Heile in the 50 freestyle (10th, 27.47), junior Mya Larson in diving (8th, 221.90), ninth-grader Jessica Woyniko in diving (10th, 207.30), senior Rachel Kleist in the 100 butterfly (9th, 1:11.83), Berg in the 500 freestyle (6th, 5:57.23), Sepehr in the 100 backstroke (10th, 1:09.21) and senior Lindsey Anderson in the 100 breaststroke (8th, 1:19.38).

The Lakers are back in the SSC pool Sept. 18 at Eastview at 6 p.m.
