The Prior Lake boys soccer team has been strong against the South Suburban Conference.

The Lakers improved to 4-0 in league play with a pair of shutout wins - 1-0 at home versus Eagan Sept. 11 and 3-0 at Rosemount Sept. 9.

Prior Lake (4-2-1 overall) is alone atop the SSC standings after four games, a game ahead of Eagan, while Eastview is 2-0-2.

The Lakers are in non-league play Sept. 13, playing at No. 3-ranked Wayzata at 4 p.m. Prior Lake is 0-2-1 away from the SSC.

“Right now, we’re really just focused on getting better every day,” said Lakers coach Mike Shebuski. “One of our biggest challenges is to work on dealing with physical and direct play and trying to continue playing our style.”

Senior Christian Metzger had the lone goal in the win over Eagan, scoring early in the first half. Senior Matt Bateman earned the shutout. He also had the shutout against Rosemount as he's started all eight games so far for the Lakers.

In beating Rosemount, the Lakers led 1-0 at the half on a goal from senior Sathia Prak with junior Mitch Carter getting the assist.

Prior Lake scored two goals eight minutes apart in the second half to take control. Both came on penalty kicks with senior Austin Gaffney tallying in the 60th minute, followed by Carter.

Following the Wayzata game, Prior Lake is back action at home to Apple Valley Sept. 16 and then will play at No. 6 Lakeville North Sept. 18 in leagues at 5:30 and 8 p.m., respectively.

The Lakers follow with back-to-back games on the road versus Section 2AA foes, Sept. 20 and 23 against top-ranked Minnetonka and Shakopee, respectively. The Sabers are also league foe.
