The Prior Lake volleyball team continues to pile up the victories.

The No. 2-ranked Lakers earned a sweep (25-13, 25-11, 25-14) at Southwest Christian Sept. 25 in a non-league match to improve to 16-2 on the season.

Last year, the Lakers tied a program-best with 23 wins. So that marks looks attainable with four SSC matches left, along with the Lakeville North Invitational and the Section 2AAA playoffs.

The Lakers are also trying to get the No. 1 seed in section with No. 8 Delano (12-1), last year's Class 3A state runner-up, challenging for it as well. Third-ranked Chaska (15-3) is also in the mix, but Prior Lake has beaten the perennial-power Hawks twice already.

Other teams in the field: Waconia (11-7), Shakopee (11-6), Chanhassen (), Willmar (9-3), Hutchinson (12-6), Mankato West (6-7-1), Buffalo (5-8), New Prague (6-12) and Mankato East (4-13-1).

Section play starts Oct. 22 with the first round, while the quarterfinals are Oct. 24.

Meanwhile, in the win over Southwest Christian, junior Ella Francis led the Lakers with 13 kills, while junior Olivia Spanton had 10. Maddie Bremmer and sophomore Ellie Veldman each had six.

Veldman also led in assists with 23, while senior Sammi Pratt had 10. Pratt led in ace serves with three, followed by senior Shannah Carter and Veldman both with two.

Senior Brittany Luethmers led in digs with 21, followed by Spanton with nine, Veldman with eight and Pratt, ninth-grader CC McGraw and junior Olivia Sudlow each with six.

In blocks, Francis led with three with ninth-grader Kayla Bair and Bremmer each had two.

The Lakers are back in South Suburban Conference action Sept. 30 at Burnsville at 7 p.m. Prior Lake is 5-0 in league play.
