Cruising To A Fourth SSC Win

The Prior Lake girls swimming team used its depth to win its fourth South Suburban Conference dual meet Sept. 25.

The Lakers won two of three relays and finished one-two in three individual events in a 96-85 home win over Lakeville South. Prior Lake improved to 4-1 in SSC duals (4-2 overall).

The Lakers will compete in the Hutchinson Invitational Sept. 27 at 10 a.m., before returning to the conference pool Oct. 2 at No. 9-ranked Eagan at 6 p.m.

The Lakers will compete in the Duluth East Invitational Oct. 4 at 2 p.m.

In the victory over Lakeville South, the Lakers 200 and 400 freestyle relays were both winners. The 200 team included senior Rachel Kleist, junior Maggie Andersen, ninth-grader Madison Shimek and eighth-grader Skylar Welle, finishing with a time of 1:46.47.

The winning 400 team included Shimek, Andersen and juniors Alex Spinner and Lauren Harris (3:42.75).

Shimek (1:59.72) and Andersen (2:03.65) went one-two, respectively in the 200 freestyle. Spinner won the 200 individual medley (2:16.17), while Welle was runner-up (2:18.77).

In diving, junior Jamie Kimble was the winner with 183.70 points, while junior Brooke Manfred was second (165.40).

Meanwhile, Harris won two events, taking the 100 butterfly (58.13) and the 100 backstroke (59.98). Shimek also won the 100 freestyle (54.79).

The Lakers' 200 medley relay team of Welle, Harris, Spinner and junior Sally Stark was second (1:53.57). Anderson was runner-up in the 500 freestyle (5:23.09), as was Welle in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.68).

Following the Duluth East invite, the Lakers are back in SSC action at home versus Apple Valley Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. The Section 2AA True Team meet is set for Oct. 11. This year’s State True Team meet is Oct. 16 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Prior Lake’s final two SSC duals are at Oct. 14 and 21 versus No. 9 Lakeville North and Farmington, respectively.
