Another Invite for the Lakers

The Prior Lake girls swimming team captured its second invite of the season Sept. 27.

The Lakers won three events and had six top-three finishes in the Hutchinson Invitational. Junior Lauren Harris and ninth-grader Madison Shimek each had a first- and second-place showing for Prior Lake.

The host Tigers were runner-up in the seven-team field, followed by Orono, Mankato West, Delano, Montevideo and Fridley/Totino Grace.

The Lakers are back in South Suburban Conference dual action Oct. 2 at No. 9-ranked Eagan at 6 p.m. Prior Lake is 4-1 in league action (4-2 overall in duals).

The Lakers' other invite win is its own back on Sept. 13. Prior Lake is at the Duluth East Invitational Oct. 4. The Section 2AA True Team competition is Oct. 11, while the State True Team is Oct. 16 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

At the Hutchinson Invite, also winning for Prior Lake was junior Jamie Kimble in diving. She finished with 197.25 points.

Harris won the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.57 and was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.13). Shimek was tops in the 100 freestyle (55.41) and was second in the 200 freestyle (1:59.54).

Prior Lake's 200 medley relay team of Harris, juniors Sally Stark and Alex Spinner and eighth-grader Skylar Welle was second (1:54.65). The 200 freestyle team of Shimek, Harris, sophomore Elizabeth Heile and junior Maggie Andersen was fourth (1:46.19), as was the 400 freestyle team of Shimek, Andersen, Welle and Spinner (3:51.04).

Spinner was also second in the 200 individual medley (2:16.19), while Welle was runner-up in the 100 backstroke (1:03.94) and fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:21.77).

Andersen was third in the 500 freestyle (5:33.43), while Stark was third in the 100 backstroke (1:04.07).

Other finishes for the Lakers: Andersen in the 200 freestyle (6th, 2:07.14), Stark in the 50 freestyle (26.70), junior Brooke Manfred in diving (6th, 139.20), junior Mya Larson in diving (8th, 136.80), sophomore Christina Berg in the 100 butterfly (10th, 1:08.80), sophomore Claudia Mahoney in the 100 freestyle (6th, 58.04) and 100 backstroke (8th, 1:05.63), Heile in the 100 freestyle (8th, 58.80) and senior Grace Halpenny in the 500 freestyle (7th, 5:54.08).
