The Prior Lake girls swimming team fell short of winning its second straight Section 2AA True Team crown Oct. 11.

Eighth-ranked Lakeville North edge the Lakers, winning with 779 points. Prior Lake finished with 743 points in the five-team field, followed by Chanhassen (671), No. 10 Lakeville South (640) and Apple Valley (296).

The eight section champions qualify for the Class AA State True Team, which is Oct. 16 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center at 6 p.m.

Four wildcard teams will also compete: Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, Centennial and Mounds View.

Last year, the Lakers finished 10th at the state true team.

At this year's section true team, the Lakers had just two wins - junior Jamie Kimble in diving and ninth-grader Madison Shimek in the 100 freestyle.

Kimble finished with 407.35 points, which was well ahead of the runner-up's total of 331.20.

Kimble is not far off from Lakers' 11-dive school record of 422.0 set in 1977 by Jana Schaumann. Kimble's best is 415.10, which is the third-highest total in Lakers' history, while her 407.35 point total is the fourth best.

Meanwhile, Shimek already holds the school record in 100 freestyle (52.94), which she last year. She won at the section true team with a time of 54.61. She was also second in the 200 freestyle (1:57.55).

Junior Lauren Harris had a pair of top-three finishes for the Lakers. She was second in the 100 butterfly (59.31) and third in the 50 freestyle (25.59).

Junior Alex Spinner was fourth in both of her events - the 200 individual medley (2:17.09) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.52). Junior Maggie Andersen was second in the 500 freestyle (5:26.56) and fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:03.36).

Junior Skylar Welle was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.57) and sixth in the 200 individual medley (2:18.99), while junior Sally Stark was fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:03.43).

Prior Lake's 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams were both third. The 200 team included Shimek, Welle, Anderson and senior Rachel Kleist (1:45.71), while the 400 team consisted of Shimek, Spinner, Andersen and Harris (3:42.54).

The 200 medely team of Stark, Welle, Spinner and Harris was fourth (1:54.78).

Other finishes for the Lakers: sophomore Claudia Mahoney in the 200 freestyle (7th, 2:06.80) and the 100 backstroke (7th, 1:05.93), junior Brooke Manfred in diving (6th, 286.50), junior Mya Larson in diving (8th, 272.50) and sophomore Elizabeth Heile in the 100 freestyle (7th, 59.38).

The Lakers are back in the pool Oct. 14 at Lakeville North in a South Suburban Conference dual at 5:30 p.m. Prior Lake, 6-1 in league duals, ends the regular season Oct. 21 at Farmington in SSC action at 6 p.m.
