The Prior Lake girls cross country team didn't have enough firepower to keep up on the South Suburban Conference trails Oct. 10.

Without standout sophomore Madi Scholl - out with a stress fracture - along with junior Olivia Thielen and ninth-grader Makenna Engobos - the Lakers faded back at the SSC Championships in Eagan finishing 10th.

Eleventh-ranked Lakeville South won the title with 52 points, five better than No. 8 Eagan.

Eastview finished third (119), followed by Lakeville North (124), Rosemount (130), Shakopee (156), Apple Valley (185), Burnsville (191), Farmington (216) and the Lakers (216).

Prior Lake will now turn its attention to the Section 3AA meet, which is Oct. 23 at Valleywood Golf Course in Apple Valley. The top-two teams qualify for state and Eagan is the favorite, while the No. 2 spot seems to be up for grabs, although Eastview and Rosemount seem to be in the best position for it.

Last year at sections, Prior Lake had its streak of 10 straight state appearances snapped, finishing sixth. It also failed to get an individual runner to state.

The top-10 finishers at sections not on the two qualifying teams also qualify for the Class AA competition, which is set for Nov. 1 at St. Olaf College in Northfield.

The Lakers' best state hopeful appears to be seventh-grader Mallory Stach. She led the team at the SSC Championships, finishing 15th on the 4,000-meter course with a time of 15:24.90.

Sophomore Gabrielle Brinkley ended up 30th (15:54.40), while sophomore Grace Jondal was 43rd (16:20.7).

Other finishers: senior Keeley Totenhagen (75th, 17:52.20), senior Andrea Citrowske (77th, 17:54.80), sophomore Sydney Yotter (80th, 17:58.80) and ninth-grader Lexie Demko (84th, 18:27.40).
