The Prior Lake girls tennis team continued its Section 3AA dominance Oct. 9.

The top-seeded Lakers rolled to a third straight title with a 5-2 victory over third-seeded Eastview at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville. Prior Lake dominated three singles matches en route to the crown.

Leading 3-1 with three matches still on the court, it was only a matter of time before ninth-grader Taylor Jackson would win at No. 3 singles. She laced a forehand down the line to win her match in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) and the celebration ensued.

The Lakers' No. 3 doubles team of ninth-grader Lindsey Henderson and eighth-grader Charlotte Bowles won shortly after in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) for a little more icing on the cake.

"Eastview is a very good team, so I was very happy with the result and how the girls played," said Lakers coach Kris Schneider.

The Lakers (14-1 overall, 9-0 in the South Suburban Conference) rolled to a 6-1 win over fourth-seeded Apple Valley in the semifinals Oct. 7 and won 7-0 over eighth-seeded Henry Sibley in the quarterfinals Oct. 2.

The Class AA state tourney is Oct. 21-22 at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis. Top-ranked Edina, winners of the last 17 state titles, will be the No. 1 seed, while the No. 2 Lakers and No. 3 Minnetonka are likely the next two seeds.

Brackets will be on www.mshsl.org when they become available. The Lakers were fourth at state last year and a program-best third in 2012, losing to Minnetonka 4-3 in the semifinals in both seasons.

Meanwhile, Prior Lake edged Eastview 4-3 during SSC play this fall. Schneider said her team didn't play its best in that match.

Eastview had a different No. 3 doubles team for the section final, but the rest of its lineup was the same. The Lakers' lineup was a little different the second time around.

"When we played them the first time we knew we didn't play our best and it wasn't our best lineup against them, so we adjusted some things," said Schneider. "We knew whatever lineup they used that our lineup (for the title match) was the best one against them. We were a little nervous right away in some matches, but luckily the girls relaxed enough to get four points fairly quickly."

Sophomore Savanna Crowell rolled at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0), while junior Grayce Petersen cruised at No. 4 (6-3, 6-0). In doubles, Prior Lake's No. 2 team of senior Alison Wagner and junior Sydney Soeffker won in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) for the third win.

At No. 1 doubles, senior Dani Keller and seventh-grader Nic Keller fell 6-2, 6-1, while junior Chloe Hall lost in a three-set, super tiebreaker at No. 2 singles (6-3, 5-7, 10-5).

Section 3AA individual play started Oct. 10 with the first two rounds. The quartefinals and semifinals are Oct. 13 with the title matches in singles and doubles Oct. 14 at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville starting at 4 p.m.

This year's Class AA state singles and doubles tourneys are Oct. 23-24 at the Baseline Tennis Center.
