PL gets Eastview at home Oct. 15 in final SSC game

The Prior Lake football team should get a little stiffer test to close out the regular season.

After strolling to a 60-7 South Suburban Conference home win over Farmington Oct. 10, the No. 5-ranked Lakers will face Eastview at home in SSC play Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.

The Lightning come in with a 4-3 mark (4-2 in the SSC), while the Lakers are 6-1 on the season.

Prior Lake is 3-0 against Eastview since the SSC debuted in 2010, including a 17-7 road win last year The Lakers also won 34-17 in 2012 and beat the Lightning 27-7 in 2011 in the section title game.

Prior Lake goes into the game on a five-game winning streak where it has outscored those opponents 162-37. Eastview has won four of its last five with its only loss a 14-7 setback to No. 5 Lakeville North.

Meanwhile, the seeds for Class 6A football will come out Oct 16. Prior Lake looks like a lock for the No. 2 seed in the section behind top-ranked Eden Prairie (7-0).

Other teams in the field: Hopkins (5-2), Minnetonka (3-4), Edina (1-6), Shakopee (2-5) and Robbinsdale Armstrong (3-4). The first round of the playoffs start Oct. 24.

The second round is the crossover games for the right to get to state. Those are Oct. 31. Section 6 will play Section 3 in the crossover games.

Second-ranked Romseount (7-0) and Lakeville North (6-1) look to be the top-two seeds, followed by Eastview and Eagan (4-3). Eagan and Lakeville North play Oct. 15, so that game could change seeds in Section 3.

Prior Lake is seeking its third trip to state in the last four seasons. Last year, it was denied a spot in the state quarterfinals with a 17-14 loss at Osseo in the crossover games.

Meanwhile, in the win over Farmington, the Lakers scored quickly and often, leading 26-0 in the first quarter and 46-0 at the break.

Prior Lake recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff and the route was on about 10 minutes later.

Senior Cullen Sowder scored on a 32-yard run for a 7-0 lead. Junior Andrew Owodunni followed with a 3-yard scoring run, which was followed by senior Alex Hart's 2- and 4-yard touchdown runs.

And just like that, it was 26-0.

In the second quarter, Sowder scored from 31 yards out, which was followed by a pair of Owodunni touchdowns that covered 11 and 88 yards. He finished with 125 yards on the ground on seven carries.

Sowder had 98 yards on six carries, while senior Ben Kemper had 67 yards on six carries.

The Prior Lake starters were out of the game by midway through the second quarter.

The third quarter started the same way - with Prior Lake scoring. Kemper had a 22-yard scoring run for a 53-0 lead. Farmington scored in the fourth quarter to deny the Lakers' the shutout.

Prior Lake's final score came from senior Desmond Deshay, a 1-yarder late in the game.

Junior Jason Peters made four of seven extra points. He's taken over the kicking duties from senior Tyler Hanson, who is out for the season with a broken arm.

Meanwhile, Owodunni's three touchdowns give him a team-best 10 rushing scores on the season, while Hart has nine on the ground, along a touchdown on an interception return.
