Lakers rumble past Robbinsdale Armstrong 54-0

The Prior Lake football team dominated from start to finish in its playoff opener Oct. 24.

And Alex Hart was all over the field.

The senior knocked down four passes, had a sack and had two rushing touchdowns in the first 15 minutes of action en route to the second-seeded Lakers' 54-0 home win over seventh-seeded Robbinsdale Armstrong in the first round of Section 6 (6A) play.

The Lakers (8-1) will face Eagan (5-4) in the crossover games between Section 6 and Section 3 for the right to go to state. It's on Prior Lake's home turf Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.

The other Section 6 versus Section 3 crossover games include: Burnsville (4-5) at Eden Prairie (9-0), Wayzata (3-6) at Rosemount (9-0) and Hopkins (5-4) at Lakeville North (8-1).

Prior Lake beat Eagan 15-14 on the road in South Suburban Conference play Oct. 3, getting a late fourth-quarter touchdown and a two-point conversion run, both from Hart, to pull out the win.

Prior Lake will be seeking its third trip to state in the last four years. Last year, the Lakers lost in the crossover game, 17-14 at Osseo.

Meanwhile, in the drubbing of Armstrong, the Falcons seemed like they forgot to game plan for Hart, one of the top linebackers in the state. In the first quarter alone, he burst through the line of scrimmage for one sack and knocked down three passes headed for the flat. He also knocked down a pass at the line of scrimmage.

Prior Lake's defense dominated all over the field. The Lakers led 38-0 at the break, which included junior Nick Raddatz scooping up a fumbled punt and racing 35 yards for a touchdown for a 31-lead.

Hart had a pair of first-half touchdown runs. He rumbled 64 yards for a score for a 17-0 lead. He followed with an 8-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.

The Lakers scored the first time they touched the ball. Senior Cullen Sowder ran 13 yards for a touchdown. Senior Tyler Hanson converted a 32-yard field for a 10-0 lead.

Senior Jacob Rosonke capped off the dominant first half with a 3-yard scoring run.

The Lakers added two scores in the second half - a 1-yard run from junior Andrew Owodunni in the third quarter and a 3-yard run from junior Lawson Zenner in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, the Section 4 versus Section 5 crossover games for the right to go to state are: Blaine (5-4) and Mounds View (8-1), White Bear Lake (4-5) at Maple Grove (8-1), Stillwater (7-2) and Totino Grace (8-1) and Osseo (6-3) at East Ridge (8-1).

The state quarterfinals are Nov. 13-14 at two different sites - Osseo and Edina.
