The Prior Lake dance team was back in the third spot Dec. 9, while Burnsville fell one place.

In the second South Suburban Conference jazz funk meet, the Lakers were a comfortable third with 12.5 marking points, while the Blazettes ended up fifth (23.5).

Eastview won with four points, followed by Lakeville South (8). That was the same order of finish from the first SSC jazz funk meet Nov. 28.

Lakeville North (17.5) moved ahead of Burnsville from the first meet taking fourth. Eagan (24) was sixth, followed by Shakopee (24.5), Rosemount (34), Farmington (36) and Apple Valley (36.5).

Prior Lake has qualified for state the last two years in jazz funk, finishing third in that dance in the Section 1AAA meet both times. The top-three teams qualify for state in both jazz funk and high kick.

Last year, the Blazettes were fourth at sections in both high kick and jazz funk. It was the first time in the 39 years of the program that Burnsville was not represented at state in at least once dance.

The Lakers are led by their three captains, seniors Casey McNally, Peyton Faber and Kacie Lein, while Burnsville's captains are seniors Shalice Chambers, Alayna Flint and Meg O'Brien.

Both Burnsville and Prior Lake will be back on the SSC floor Dec. 16 in a high kick meet at Eastview at 7 p.m. Prior Lake is the host for the SSC Championships, which are set for Dec. 20 at 11 a.m.

This year's Section 1AAA meet follows at Bloomington Kennedy Feb. 7. The Class 3A state competition is Feb. 13-14 at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Eastview is the defending state champion in both dances.
