The Prior Lake girls basketball team climbed over the .500 mark Dec. 13 with another victory over Tartan.

The Lakers rolled over the Titans in their season opener Nov. 28, winning 70-29 in the first round of the Early Bird Tournament in Hopkins.

The rematch Dec. 13 was a lot closer on Tartan's home floor with the Lakers pulling out a 59-51 victory. Prior Lake improved to 3-2 overall and will return to the court Dec. 19 in its South Suburban Conference opener at Shakopee at 6 p.m.

"We are progressing very well," said Lakers coach Mike Gidley. "We are starting to play better defense and our rhythm on offense is starting to get better."

Against Tartan, senior Shaye Barton led the Lakers with 14 points, followed by senior Sam McElwain with 13 and sophomore Riley Wheatcraft with 10.

Sophomore Brooke Glass finished with nine points, while junior Michelle Lother scored seven and eighth-grader McKenna Hofschild had six.

Prior Lake will close out 2014 in the St. Olaf Holiday Hoops Classic Dec. 29-31, facing Northfield, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendal and Holy Family in consecutive days.

The Lakers will open 2015 in SSC play at Lakeville South Jan. 2. Prior Lake's first home game of the season is Jan. 6 in conference action versus Farmington. Both games start at 7 p.m.
