Stepping Up on the Ice

Katie Huntington has stepped up her game for the Prior Lake girls hockey team.

The ninth-grader scored two goals, including the game-winner with 4:57 left to play to lift the Lakers to a 4-3 South Suburban Conference home win over Eastview Dec. 16.

The Lakers (5-7-1 overall, 4-4 in the SSC) went into the game off a 2-0 league victory at Burnsville Dec. 13.

Prior Lake has some winnable games coming up to get to back to .500 to close out 2014. The Lakers are at North Wright Country Dec. 18 and at Shakopee in SSC play Dec. 19. Both start at 7 p.m.

The last time the Lakers were .500 going into January was the 2006-07 season.

Meanwhile, in beating Eastview, the Lakers overcame a 2-1 deficit after the first period. Ninth-grader Taylor Murray tied the game with a goal in the second period with sophomore Maddy Primeau and senior Alycia Primeau getting the assists.

Senior Lindsey Harris scored unassisted 1:08 into the third to give the Lakers a 3-2 lead. Eastview tied it up a 1:23 later, before Huntington's game-winner.

Huntington also scored in the first period. She leads the team in points through 13 games with 17 (11 goals, 6 assists).

Senior Andrea Citrowske and Murray assisted on the game-winning goal. Alycia Primeau had the assist on Huntington's first goal.

Junior Miranda Pavlish made 25 saves in goal for the Lakers. She had 14 saves in getting her second shutout of the season in the win over Burnsville.

Harris gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead in the second period with a goal with senior Abbie Hanson assisting. Huntington scored in the third period with Citrowske and Alycia Primeau getting the assists.

Prior Lake will open 2015 in SSC play Jan. 3 at home versus Farmington at 5:30 p.m. The Tigers won the first meeting 6-4 back on Nov. 11.
