Controlling the Early Waters

The Prior Lake boys swimming team controlled the waters in its own invite Dec. 13.

The Lakers dominated the seven-team field, winning the crown with 489.5 points. That was well ahead of runner-up Apple Valley (363) and third-place Shakopee (337.5).

Cretin-Derham Hall was fourth (329), followed by Watertown-Mayer (294), Farmington (283) and White Bear Lake (171).

The Lakers opened the season the day before in their home pool beating Lakeville South 96-90 in a South Suburban Conference dual.

At the invite, the Lakers won five events with junior Craig Robrock winning two individual ones and junior Marshall Heskin winning one.

The Lakers also won two of three relays. The 200 medley team of Robrock, Heskin and juniors Alex Leff and Jens Lund was victorious with a time of 1:43.14, as was the 400 freestyle team of Leff, Heskin, Robrock and junior Jack Dessler (3:29.50).

The Lakers' 200 freestyle team of Dessler, sophomore Colin Dwyer and seniors Zak Jung and Matt Anderson was second (1:37.13).

Robrock won both the 500 freestyle (5:08.60) and the 100 breaststroke (1:02.90). Heskin was tops in the 50 freestyle (22.73) and second in the 100 backstroke (59.44).

Leff was fourth in the 100 butterfly for the Lakers (57.58) and sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:01.70). Dwyer was fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:16.76) and seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:01.68).

Other top-10individual finishes for the Lakers: Dessler in the 200 individual medley (8th, 2:00.46) and the 100 butterfly (9th, 1:02.15), senior Caleb Torvik in the 200 indivdual medley (9th, 2:03.04) and 500 freestyle (8th, 5:47.29), junior Austin Beck in the 200 individual medley (10th, 2:04.42) and 500 freestyle (10th, 5:48.43), sophomore Braeden Malotky in the 200 freestyle (10th, 2:21.46), ninth-grader Henry Skinner in the 50 freestyle (6th, 24.05) and 100 freestyle (10th, 54.72), Lund in the 100 freestyle (9th, 54.44), eighth-grader Sean Dwyer in the 100 backstroke (7th, 1:02.24) and Jung in the 100 breaststroke (T7th, 1:12.09).

In the win over Lakeville South, Heskin and Leff led the Lakers with each winning two individual events.

Heskin won the 200 freestyle (1:50.17) and the 100 butterfly (54.0), while Leff captured the 50 freestyle (22.18) and the 100 freestyle (49.77). Robrock won the 100 backstroke (56.02), while Sean Dwyer was tops in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.27).

The Lakers' 200 medley relay team of Skinner, Sean Dwyer, Robrock and Leff was also a winner (1:45.86). 

Prior Lake is back in the pool Jan. 19 at Lakeville North in SSC dual action at 5:30 p.m.
