The Prior Lake boys hockey team made a quick recovery in the South Suburban Conference.

Junior Drew Scites made 31 saves in helping the Lakers to 3-1 win at Lakeville South Jan. 17.

Prior Lake (9-6-1 overall) went into the game off a 4-3 loss at Rosemount Jan. 15, giving up two goals in the final four minutes of play, including the game-winner with 42 seconds to go.

So it was a nice bounce-back effort for the Lakers (6-3-1 in the SSC).

Prior Lake is home to Eagan Jan. 22 in league action and follows with a big home game versus Section 2AA rival Burnsville Jan. 24 at 3 p.m.

Prior Lake beat Burnsville 3-1 in the first meeting and a second win over the Blaze would most likely cement the No. 2 in the section behind second-ranked Edina.

Meanwhile, Lakeville South and Prior Lake skated to a 3-3 tie in the first meeting back on Nov. 25. In the rematch, Scites was in control most of the game. He had 23 saves in the final two periods after the Lakers were up 2-0 after one frame.

Senior Hayden Maxfield and junior Connor Clemons had first-period goals for the Lakers. Senior Derek Daugaard made it 3-0 with a goal 5:35 into the second period.

Senior Tyler Bump, sophomores Chase Gackle, Kevin Fellows, Cole Wagner and Ryan Murray and junior Curtis Hansen each had one assist.

Following the Burnsville game, the Lakers are home to Minnetonka in non-conference play Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. Prior Lake returns to SSC action Jan. 29 at Eastview at 7 p.m.
