The Prior Lake girls hockey team couldn't pull out the upset against the leader in the South Suburban Conference.

Ninth-ranked Lakeville South went to 14-0-0 in league actin with a 4-1 home win over the Lakers. The loss snapped Prior Lake's two-game win streak.

Prior Lake (7-12-2 overall, 6-8 in the SSC) has four conference games to play before getting focused on the Section 2AA playoffs. The Lakers are home to Eagan Jan. 20 at 7 p.m.

The final three games are: versus Burnsville (Jan. 24), at Eastview (Jan. 27) and versus Shakopee (Jan. 31).

Section 2AA is loaded at the top with No. 1 Eden Prairie (18-0-3) a lock to be the No. 1 seed. Sixth-ranked Edina (12-7-1) is likely the No. 2, followed by Chaksa/Chanhassen (12-8), Bloomington Jefferson (11-10), Shakopee (12-9) and Holy Family (9-7-4).

The Lakers are the only team in the field under .500. Prior Lake is also 0-2 versus section teams losing to both Shakopee and Holy Family. So it would take a strong finish for Prior Lake to avoid the No. 7 seed.

In the loss to Lakeville South, senior Keely Totenhagen scored the Lakers' lone goal with senior Lindsey Harris getting the assist. Prior Lake trailed just 2-1 after one period of play.

The Cougars added goals in both the second and third periods. Junior Miranda Pavlish finished with 31 saves. The Lakers were outshot 35-21.

Through 21 games, ninth-grader Katie Huntington leads the Lakers with 28 points (18 goals, 10 assists). Senior Andrea Citrowske has 17 points (5 goals, 12 assists), followed by Harris (4 goals, 10 assists), senior Alycia Primeau (2 goals, 6 assists), Totenhagen (3 goals, 4 assists) and senior Abbie Hanson (7 assists).

Pavlish has a 2.58 goals-against average in 21 games, along with four shutouts and an .887 save percentage.
