Lakers back in the win column

The Prior Lake girls basketball team got back into the win column Jan. 17.

Senior Shaye Barton scored a game-high 18 points, leading the way in a 60-44 South Suburban Conference home win over Burnsville.

The Lakers improved to 8-6 overall (2-4 in the SSC), earning their first win over a Section 2AAAA foe (1-2).

Prior Lake dominated the second half, outscoring the Blaze 38-22. The game was tied 22-22 at the break.

Junior Michelle Lother and sophomore Riley Wheatcraft finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Sophomore Brooke Glass scored nine points, while eighth-grader McKenna Hofschild had six points and senior Sam McElwain scored five.

Barton's 18 points give her 1,018 for her career. She recently eclipsed the 1,000-points mark, doing so Jan. 13 in a home loss to Eagan. She leads the team at 14.5 points per game.

Junior Hannah Mitby led Burnsville (3-10 overall, 0-6 in the SSC) with 14 points, while sophomore Emma Fee had 13.

Prior Lake is back on the court Jan. 20 at No. 8-ranked Lakeville North and returns home Jan. 23 to face Apple Valley. Both SSC games start at 7 p.m.

Other conference games coming up: at Rosemount (Jan. 27), versus No. 9 Shakopee (Jan. 30), at Farmington (Feb. 3), versus Lakeville South (Feb. 6), versus No. 3 Eastview (Feb. 10) and at Burnsville (Feb. 13).
