Dobransky gets Lone State Spot

Kailey Dobransky is heading back to the state meet for a third straight year.

The sophomore on the Prior Lake gymnastics team qualified in two individual events and in the all-around at the Section 2AA competition Feb. 13 at Chanhassen.

Dobransky won the uneven bars with a score of 9.4.

The top-four gymnasts in each of the four events and in the all-around make state, along with the winning team, which was No. 6-ranked Lakeville North.

Prior Lake finished third with a season-best score of 136.625. The Panthers' winning total was 144.575, while Lakeville South was second (137.275).

Chanhassen was fourth (133.875), followed by Bloomington Jefferson (132.775), Apple Valley (128.25), Chaska (126.2) and Bloomington Kennedy (118.85).

The Class 2A state team tournament is Feb. 20 at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion, while the individual meet is the next day. Both days start at 6 p.m.

At sections, Dobransky finished third in the all-around with a score of 36.500. She was fourth on the beam with a mark of 8.75. She also finished sixth on the floor (9.3) and ninth on the vault (9.05).

Sophomore Rachel Grosklags made a run at state on the vault, taking sixth with a score of 9.175, which just off the fourth-best score (9.275). Grosklags was ninth in the all-around (34.570), finishing 20th on the floor (8.75), 12th on the beam (8.3) and 10th on the bars (8.35).

Junior Tarra Willox was 12th in the all-around (33.850), taking 15th on the floor (9.0), ninth on the beam (8.475), 22nd on the bars (7.725) and 16th on the vault (8.65).

Other finishes for the Lakers: seventh-grader Toriana Blair on the vault (27th, 8.15) and the beam (15th, 8.225), seventh-grader Kapria Peden on the vault (34th, 8.0), eighth-grader Maddie Gjorvad on the bars (24th, 7.45) and the floor (31st, 7.825), junior Scarlet Hoffman on the bars (29th, 7.275) and the beam (27th, 7.55) and ninth-grader Rachel Landro on the floor (29th, 7.875).

Last year at state, Dobransky finished 17th in the all-around with a score of 36.925. She was 15th on the balance beam (9.225) and 25th on the uneven bars (8.925).

In 2013, the Lakers won the Section 2AA team title and ended up a program-best seventh in the state team standings. Dobransky was a big part of that Prior Lake team as well.
