Four Prior Lake Nordic skiers were on the cold, windy trails Feb. 12 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.

Senior Kaija Ornes and junior McKenzie Lundquist were there for a second straight year for the Laker girls, while junior Maria Berg was competing for a third time.

On the boys side, junior Mitch McDonald was making his first-ever appearance and he had the highest finish among the Prior Lake contingent.

In the single-digit temperatures, McDonald finished 54th overall out of 159 skiers with a combined time of 32.17.6 in pursuit, which is a combination of times from the 5,000-meter freestyle and classical races.

McDonald skied the freestyle in 15:48 and had a time of 16:29.6 in the classical. Forest Lake senior Leo Hipp won the pursuit title (28:32), leading his squad to the team title.

On the girls side, Wayzata won the team championship, while Osseo senior Sarah Bezdicek was the overall pursuit winner (34:16.5).

Ornes finished 59th with a pursuit time of 39:50.4. She finished the freestyle in 19:57 and the classical in 19:53.4. Lundquist ended up 99th with a time of 41:52.4, coming in with a freestyle time of 21:29 and a finishing the classical in 20:22.4.

Berg ended up 76th with a time of 40:51.4. She had a classical time of 21:32 and a freestyle time of 19:19.4. Berg was representing New Prague, but she skis with Prior Lake during the regular season season since the Lakers and Trojans are co-operative programs.

Prior Lake and New Prague are forced to split up for the Section 1 meet, as well as state.
