For the second straight year, the Prior Lake boys basketball team is back in the Section 2AAAA semifinals.

The sixth-seeded Lakers opened the second half with a 15-0 run and then held off third-seeded Bloomington Jefferson down the stretch for a 64-50 road victory in the quarterfinals Feb. 25.

Senior Kevin McKiernan finished with 21 points to lead the Lakers.

Prior Lake (13-14) will face second-seeded Chaska (21-6) in the semifinals Feb. 28 at Apple Valley High School at 7 p.m. Top-seeded Shakopee (20-7) meets fourth-seeded Chanhassen (17-10) in the other semifinal game right before at 5 p.m.

The winners meet in the title game March 6 in Apple Valley at 7 p.m. For complete brackets, go to www.mshsl.org.

Prior Lake heads into the semifinals winners of four of its last five games. Its one loss was 64-62 in overtime at Lakeville North Feb. 20 in South Suburban Confernece play, which ended the regular season.

That loss knocked the Lakers to the No. 6 seed in the playoffs, but maybe to a more favorable matchup. A win against Lakeville North and the Lakers would have faced Chanhassen on the road in the first round and the Storm have won 11 straight games.

Jefferson went into the playoffs 4-3 in its last seven games. Prior Lake led 30-23 at the break. Down 48-30, the Jaguars clawed back, using an 11-0 run to pull within seven (48-41) with five minutes to play.

But Prior Lake held on, getting a couple of big three-pointers from senior Sam Schultze in the final three minutes. He finished with 16 points.

Seniors Connor Bair and Austin Heidecker and junior Jack Kortes each had 10 points.

The Lakers' playoff win over Jefferson was just the program's third since becoming a Class 4A program at the start of the 2003-04 season.

Prior Lake lost its two previous semifinal games both in overtime - 73-69 last year to Shakopee and 71-67 to Chanhassen in 2012.
