Alex Citrowske played a big part in helping the Bemidji State University women's hockey team to a school-record in wins this past season.

The 2011 Prior Lake High School graduate wrapped up her four-year, Division I career with the Beavers March 8 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) title game.

The result wasn't what Citrowske and the Beavers were hoping for - 4-0 loss to No. 3-ranked Wisconsin. But don't forget the semifinals when Bemidji State pulled off the big upset, 1-0 over No. 2 Minnesota.

Citrowske finished her senior season with four goals and six assists, helping her team to a program-best 21-17-1 overall mark (13-14-1 in the WCHA).

Next year, the Beavers will return 21 players, while Citrowske will be moving on, having helped the team make a bigger leap forward as a Division I program.

Citrowske scored five goals and had seven assists for the Beavers as a junior. The Beavers won 17 games in Citrowske's freshman year, but dropped off to six wins in her sophomore campaign and to 11 last year.

At Prior Lake, Citrowske was a three-sport athlete, also excelling on the soccer field and on the track. She was a five-year letterwinner on the ice for the Lakers.

She finished her senior season with 26 goals and seven assists and she ended her Lakers' career with 72 goals and 37 assists.

Citrowske's skills were somewhat hidden in her first four seasons with Prior Lake. Playing in the now-defunct Missota Conference, the Lakers didn't always play the top teams.

But Prior Lake moved to the 10-team South Suburban Conference for Citrowske's senior year, where she excelled and was regarded as one of the top players in the league.

Citrowske scored two goals in Lakers' 5-3 win at Burnsville in her senior year impressing Blaze coach Bruce Anderson, who retired after the 2012 season after 17 years as either Burnsville's head or assistant coach.

Anderson, who had 94 career wins, called Citrowske the "best player on the ice" in that win and a Division I talent. At the time, Anderson admitted he didn't know much about Citrowske since the Blaze was in the Lake Conference and the Lakers were in the Missota, before the SSC debuted.

On the track at Prior Lake, Citrowske excelled in the sprints and was a big part of the Lakers' relays. She was part of seven state relays in her career, including five that finished top five. She was also third in the 400 her senior year.

In soccer, Citrowske scored 12 goals in her final three seasons with the Lakers.
