Falling to Top-Ranked Teams

After opening the season with an easy 11-0 win, the Prior Lake baseball team ran into the No. 1- and 2-ranked teams in the state.

The Lakers fell 5-4 at No. 2 Eden Prairie April 10 in a non-conference game and lost 4-1 at home to No. 1 Lakeville North in South Suburban Conference action April 8.

Prior Lake opened the season with an 11-0 league win in five innings at Farmington April 6.

The Lakers are back on the field April 13 at Apple Valley, before returning home April 15 to face Rosemount. Both SSC games are at 4:15 p.m. Prior Lake is home to No. 5 Minnetonka April 16 in non-league play at 4:15 p.m.

In the loss to Eden Prairie, the Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the victory, getting back-to-back doubles off junior Nick Raddatz, who took the loss with 1 1/3 innings of work.

The Lakers made an error after a leadoff walk and a sacrifice to help aid the rally.

Junior Lucas Pumper started and went five innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Junior Nick Hanson was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for the Lakers, while senior Nick Vaage went 2 for 3 with a double.

Junior Jason Peter was 2 for 3 with an RBI. The Lakers scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to lead 4-3.

In the loss to Lakeville North, junior Lawson Zenner took the loss working four innings of relief and allowing just two hits and three runs (two earned). Hanson started and went three innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits.

The Lakers had just three hits - singles from Vaage, Zenner and senior Tommy Keating. Senior Taylor Widgen had an RBI.

Lakeville North took a 2-1 lead with a run in the fifth inning and added two more runs in the top of the seventh.

In beating Farmington, the Lakers had 14 hits in five innings. Junior Jimmy Larson got the win with four shutout innings, striking out five.

Keating was 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs. Peter was 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, while Vaage was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

Senior Garrett Gueltzow finished 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Widgen was 1 for 3 with a run knocked in.
