The Prior Lake boys golf team was on the Section 2AAA course May 5.

The Lakers were in the 19-team Nelson Invitational at The Ridges of Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan, finishing fourth overall with a score of 319.

Wayzata won the title with 305, followed by Edina (312) and Minnetonka (313). Holy Family was sixth (322), followed by Lakeville North (323) and Detroit Lakes (326).

The Lakers' No. 1 player — senior Jason Grosklags — did not play due to AP calculus testing, so the team score was pretty decent for the Lakers in the windy conditions.

However, to win the 36-hole Section 2AAA title, it's going to take at least a pair of 300s or even better. Edina is the defending section champion.

Senior Austin Gaffney led the Lakers at the Nelson invite with a 78, while senior Zach Whipps had 79. Seniors Chris Grosklags and Kevin McKiernan both shot 81.

The Lakers' other two scores were 82 from senior Greg Restad and 87 from junior Bennett Cooper.

The Lakers are back on the course May 8-9 in the 36-hole Mankato East Invitational. The first round is at LeSueur Country Club at 8 a.m., followed by the final round at Creeks Bend Golf Course at 9 a.m.

The next South Suburban Conference tournament is May 12 at Heritage Links Golf Course at 11 a.m.

The Lakers are tied for fourth with Rosemount through the first two SSC events with 10 points. Lakeville South leads (18), followed by Eastview (15) and Eagan (11).

The SSC Championships are May 18 at Valleywood Golf Course in Apple Valley at 2 p.m.
