Lakers Secure Third

The Prior Lake girls track team was strong in the field events at the South Suburban Conference Championships May 19-20.

 

 

Led by junior Ella Francis, the Lakers had one win and seven top-six finishes in the jumps and throws. Prior Lake ended up third in the overall team standings with 98 points.

Lakeville South ran away from the field, winning with 179 points. Eagan was a distant second (126). Shakopee was fourth (86), followed by Lakeville North (83), Eastview (61.5), Farmington (53.5), Burnsville (52.5), Apple Valley (50.5) and Rosemount (38).

Francis had four top-10 finishes for the Lakers. She won the pole vault with a school-record height of 11-3. She was also second in the triple jump (36-0).

Francis was also sixth in the 100 hurdles (16.19) and 10th in the 300 hurdles (49.54).

Sophomore Madi Scholl ended up second in the high jump with a height of 5-5, while senior Sarah Schrader was second in the long jump (17-2 3/4) and third in the triple jump (35-11).

Junior Hannah Duckson was fifth in the shot put (34-7 3/4), while junior Jazmen Henderson was fifth in the discus (111-7) and senior Victoria Christenson was sixth (105-8).

In the relays, the Lakers' 4x800 relay team of Scholl, junior Olivia Thielen, sophomore Grace Jondal and seventh-grader Mallory Stach was third (9:58.73).

The 4x200 team of Thielen, juniors Olivia Schroeder and Nicole Hoepner and ninth-grader Kristyn Arends was fourth (1:48.92), as was the 4x100 team of Schrader, Hoepner, seventh-grader Taynian Walgrave and ninth-grader Alisa Robbins (50.88).

The 4x400 team of Schroeder, Hoepner, Arends and Scholl finished eighth (4:14.12).

Walgrave also had two top-seven finishes in the hurdles, finishing third in the 300 (47.38) and sixth in the 100 (16.32). Sophomore Christina Hanson was 10th in the 100 hurdles (16.62).

Stach led Lakers in the 1,600 taking fourth (11.21.78), while Schroeder was eighth in the 400 (1:01.86).

Senior Andrea Citrowske ended up 10th in the pole vault (8-6).

Up next for the Lakers is the Section 3AA meet, which starts May 26 with the prelims and ends May 28 with the finals at the University of St. Thomas.

The Class 2A State meet is June 5-6 at Hamline University in St. Paul.
