4th in SSC

The Prior Lake boys track team had two individual South Suburban Conference champions, but not the overall title.

After winning the SSC Relays and the Section 3AAA True Team, the Lakers' momentum was stalled some in the SSC Championships May 19-20 with a fourth-place finish.

The Lakers scored 86.5 points, well back of champion Eagan (131). Lakeville South was second (106.5) and Rosemount was third (93).

Farmington ended up fifth (81), followed by Shakopee (80), Burnsville (60.5), Eastview (51), Apple Valley (46) and Lakeville North (44.5).

Seniors Eric Dols and Deshonn Brown each won an SSC title for the Lakers. Dols claimed the shot put with a toss of 55-5 3/4, while Brown was tops in the high jump with a height of 6-3.

The Lakers were top four in all four relays, led the 4x400 team of senior Stefan Prince, sophomores Ian O'Connor and Colin Dwyer and junior Sam Mader, which took second (3:30.03).

The 4x200 of senior Desmond Deshay and juniors Jake Simonson, Luke Bednarek and Logan Petersmeyer was third (1:32.26). The 4x800 team of senior Ben Garrison, sophomores Connor Smith and Noah Torvik and junior Trenton Galloway finished fourth (8:18.96), as did the 4x100 team of Petersmeyer, Bednarek, Deshay and junior Mason Enger (43.79).

Dywer finished third in the 1,600 (4:31.10). Deshay was fourth in the 200 (23.05) and fifth in the long jump (21-2 1/2). Bednarek was fifth in the 100 (11.50), while Mader was fifth in the 400 (52.16).

In the 110 hurdles, junior Devyonn Brown was seventh (15.81), while Deshonn Brown was eighth (15.91) and junior Keegan Bloedel was 10th (16.07). Bloedel was also 10th in the triple jump (39-6 1/2) and Devyonn Brown was 10th in the 300 hurdles (42.13).

Garrison took seventh in the 800 (2:02.46), while Prince was 10th in the 400 (52.98).

In the discus, Dols was sixth (149-10), while senior Jack Ryan was seventh in the shot put (48-10). Enger was ninth in the pole vault (11-0).

Next up for the Lakers is the Section 3AA meet. The prelims are May 26 and the finals are May 28 and both days are held at the University of St. Thomas.

This year's Class 2A state meet is June 5-6 at Hamline University in St. Paul.
