Reeling in the top angling

Ben Provost and Mason Raveling showed off their bass-catching skills Aug. 28.

The two anglers represented Prior Lake High School in the High School Northern Division Championships on Lake Vermillion, winning the title. They beat out eight other champions from other states.

Provost and Raveling were also part of the Minnesota team also that took first place. That team consisted of 12 professionals, along with Raveling and Provost.

Provost and Raveling's winning fish total weighed in at 17 pounds, 8 ounces.

The Minnesota team weight total was 291 pounds, 7 ounces. That was 52 pounds ahead of second-place Wisconsin (239-2) and third-place Illinois (227-8).

Ohio was fourth (212-4), followed by Michigan (193-5), Iowa (185-13) and South Dakota (184-11).

The two-day tournament wrapped up Aug. 29 in Tower, Minn., near Fortune Bay Casino.
