Riding the state bike trail

The Prior Lake mountain bike team had some strong finishes in the final race of the season Oct. 29-30.

The Lakers were competing the Minnesota High School Cycling League state championships in Mt. Kato in Mankato and ended sixth out of 10 schools in the Division I team standings. Stillwater won the title, followed by Edina, Hopkins, Minneapolis Washburn and Duluth East.

Robbinsdale Armstrong was seventh, followed by Wayzata, Hudson and Minnetonka.

Calvin Sundberg led the Lakers in the Division I boys varsity race with a second-place finish overall with a time of 23:29.9, while teammate Nicholas Fillipi ended up 24th (33:48.8).

In the boys junior varsity Division I race, finishes for Prior Lake included: Dawson Matthews (33rd) and Mike Haugen (34th) and Gregory Schabert (48th).

In the sophomore Division I boys race, Luke Larson and Gabe Czajkowski led the Lakers, taking third and fourth, respectively. Dillon Flamm was 25th for Prior Lake, followed by Landon Malsom (27th), Joshua Langhorst (28th) and Isaac Brown (31st).

In the freshman Division I boys race, Prior Lake's Thomas Beyer led all riders, winning with a time of 38:12. Drew Dietrich ended up 14th for the Lakers, followed by Grady Hall (18th), Sam Yotter (23rd) and Nate Pfeiffer (29th).

Beyer was recognized as the Division I freshman state champion at the annual banquet. He was first in all six races this fall.

On the girls side, Ellie Pfeiffer led Prior Lake in the varsity race finishing 14th. Clarissa Wegener was 12th in the sophomore race.
