For the third time in four years, the Prior Lake boys swimming team earned a top-10 state finish.

Led by sophomore Sean Dwyer and junior diver Paul Lenz, the Lakers finished ninth in the Class AA state team standings March 4 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center with 84.5 points.

Minnetonka won the title with 340 points, followed by Eden Prairie (274) and Chanhassen (155). Shakopee was fifth (122.5). All four of those teams are in Section 2AA with the Lakers, so that section had four programs in the top five and five in the top 10.

Last year, the Lakers were a program-best fourth at state. The team was sixth in 2014.

Meanwhile, Dwyer had two top-six finishes for Prior Lake taking sixth in both the 200 and 500 freestyles. He broke the school record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:41.26.

Dwyer went 1:41.62 in the prelims and was seeded fifth for the finals. The old school record was 1:43.65 set by Kyle Ochsner in 2009.

In the 500 freestyle, Dwyer also moved past Ochsner for No. 1 on the school-record list for that event with a time of 4:40.28 in the prelims. That had him seeded tied for sixth for the finals.

In the finals, Dwyer went a little slower by .52 (4:40.85). Ochsner's school mark was 4:43.15 set in 2009.

Meanwhile, Lenz ended up fifth in diving with 391.40 points. That was off from his third-place Section 2AA total of 472.70 points, but judging at state can be more difficult.

Lenz is a first-year diver for the Lakers. He began diving last June for North Star Diving. He was a top-level gymnast at TAGS until a broken arm ended his career in February of 2016.

Lenz is one of just three Laker divers in program history to score more than 400 points in an 11-dive competition.

Kirk Schaumann holds Prior Lake's school-diving record of 545.50 set way back in 1976. Schaumann also holds the six-dive school mark for dual meets (312.30). Steve Tuffe is also in the Lakers' 400 points club with a 417.95 total back in 1982.

Meanwhile, junior Henry Skinner was also on the medal stand for the Lakers at state. He got there in the 50 freestyle, tying for seventh with a time of 21.52. Alex Leff holds the Lakers' school record of 21.26 set in 2015.

Skinner was also 12th in the 100 freestyle (48.03).

Skinner, Dwyer and seniors Braeden Malotky and Michael Heile made up both the Lakers' 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. Both ended up 10th with times of 1:28.26 and 3:13.59, respectively.

Shakopee ended up having the top state team finish among South Suburban Conference schools. Eagan was sixth (116), while Lakeville South was 11th (73) and Eastview was 12th (71).

Other SSC teams: Lakeville North (T15th, 55), Rosemount (T29th, 12) and Burnsville (T40th, 1).
