The Prior Lake boys golf team's scores are improving.

Senior Tanner Burggraaff had the Lakers' best round of the spring May 10 in the Lakeville Legends Invitational at Legends Golf Club with a 1-over par 73.

The Lakers had a team total of 310, which was 26 shots behind champion Chaska. Senior Jack Koenig had 77 for Prior Lake, followed by ninth-grader Brenden Jore (80), sophomore Jack Thibault (80), sophomore Luke Vathing (81) and sophomore Matt Peterson (83).

"We shot our best as a team and we were able to give some younger guys some valuable varsity experience," said Lakers coach Brad Bulver. "And they delivered with some low scores."

The day before the Lakers competed in the Nelson Invitational at The Ridges of Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan, shooting a team total of 319. Minnetonka won (299), followed by Lakeville North (300).

Sophomore Carter Taney led the Lakers with 77, followed by Koenig (78), senior Quinn Taney (81), junior Jackson LeJeune and senior Mike Ruelle (83) and senior Evan Sibbet (87).

Prior Lake was at the Shakopee Invitational May 8 at Stonebrooke Golf Club, finishing with a team score of 329. Burggraaff had the Lakers' low round with an 80.

"Our guys have been filling in spots and playing like they don’t want to give them up," said Bulver. "It’s been very fun as a coach to have 19 kids who all love golf and really want to get better and compete at a high level."

The Lakers are in the 36-hole Mankato West Invitational May 12-13 at LeSueur Country Club the first day at 8:30 a.m., and at Creeks Bend Golf Course the next day at 9 a.m.

Prior Lake has two South Suburban Conference tournaments, starting May 15 at Valleywood Golf Course at 2 p.m., and again May 17 at the Meadows at Mystic Lake at 9 a.m.

Laker Girls

The Prior Lake girls golf team competed in a dual meet versus Shakopee May 8 at Heritage Links Golf Course.

The Lakers had a four-player score of 452, compared to the Sabers' 383.

Prior Lake returns to the links May 15 in the Shakopee Invitational at Stonebrooke Golf Cub at 2 p.m. The Lakers are in a South Suburban Conference tournament May 18 at Rich Valley Golf Course at 10 a.m.

The final two SSC tourneys are May 23 at Heritage Links and May 25 at Southern Hills Golf Course at 10 and 11 a.m., respectively.
