The Prior Lake boys tennis team will turn its attention to the postseason.

The Lakers ended the regular season May 9 with a tough 7-0 defeat at No. 3-ranked Lakeville South in South Suburban Conference action. Prior Lake went into the match off a 4-3 win at Chanhassen the day before in a battle of Section 2AA foes.

The Lakers finished the SSC with a 3-6 mark and will take a 9-7 overall record into the Section 2AA team tournament, which starts May 16. Prior Lake is almost certain to be the No. 1 seed in the south sub-section.

Others teams in the south: Hutchinson, Mankato West, New Prague, Mankato East/Loyola and New Ulm.

In the north sub-section, there's No. 1 Minnetonka, No. 10 Orono, Eden Prairie, Shakopee, Chaska and Chanhassen.

The top-two teams from each sub-section meet in the semifinals May 23 at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter in crossover matches with the winners meeting for the title.

Last year, Prior Lake lost in the semifinals, falling 7-0 to Shakopee, finishing the season with a 9-6 mark. It was the program's first winning season since 2008.

When PJ Priest took over Prior Lake's program at the start of the 2011 season, it had just one winning season since 1994. It had been held to three or fewer wins eight times since 2000. So if the Lakers can win a playoff match, it will have their first 10-win season since 1994.

Meanwhile, in beating Chanhassen, the Lakers swept all four singles matches en route to the victory.

Sophomore Max Hall won at the No. 1 spot (6-3, 6-4), while junior Aditya Acharya rolled at No. 2 (6-1, 6-2), as did sophomore Jaydon Olson at No. 3 (6-4, 6-1). At No. 4, sophomore Michael Johnson won in three sets (3-6, 6-2, 10-8).
