Not the Time to Slow Down

The Prior Lake boys track team continues to make things happen against top competition.

The Lakers dominated the South Suburban Conference Championships in Lakeville May 23-24, winning five events. The Lakers finished with 182 points, which was well ahead of runner-up Lakeville South (144).

Rosemount was third (121), followed by Lakeville North (104), Burnsville (72), Eagan (70), Eastview (56), Apple Valley (29), Farmington (25) and Shakopee (22).

Next for Prior Lake is the Section 3AA meet at Concordia University in St. Paul May 31 (prelims) and June 1 (finals).

Leading the way for the boys at the SSC meet was senior Colin Dwyer. He won the 1,600 with a time of 4:21.04 and the 3,200 (9:38.03). Senior Zachary Kulstad claimed the 400 (49.86).

The 4x200 relay team of sophomore Keaton Schroeder, junior Daniel Wee, senior Ian O'Connor and Kulstad won with a meet-record time (1:30.09). The 4x400 team of seniors Owen Kilanowski and Noah Torvik, eighth-grader Gabe Smit and Wee was also first (8:11.07).

In the pole vault, senior Trevon Comp was second for the Lakers with mark of 13-6, while senior Devon Noer was third (13-0).

Schroeder was second in the 100 (11.18) and third in the 200 (22.51). Junior Mitch Wangler was runner-up in the 110 hurdles (14.88), third in the 300 hurdles (40.25) and fifth in the triple jump (41-3 3/4).

O'Connor was second in the high jump (6-4) and third in the 400 (50.45). Kulstad was fifth in both the 200 (22.96) and the high jump (5-10). Senior Tyler Knutson was fourth in the both the triple jump (41-11) and long jump (20-08), while senior Kevin Holcombe was third in the triple jump (42-3 3/4) and fifth in the 300 hurdles (40.83).

Torvik endded up fourth in the 800 (1:59.61), while ninth-grader Dylan Bair was fifth in the long jump (20-08) and junior Jordan Wakeman was sixth in the 300 hurdles (41.09).

Other top-nine finishes: junior Jack Greives in the discus (7th, 142-0), junior Carter Johnson in the 100 (7th, 11.55), senior Babatunde Jinadu in the 400 (8th, 51.63), senior Connor Smith in the 800 (7th, 2:03.31), Smit in the 3,200 (9th, 10:05.04), Holcombe in the 110 hurdles (9th, 16.09) and the high jump (9th, 5-8) and senior Jacob Gustin in the shot put (9th, 47-0).

Others: Smith in the 1,600 (13th, 4:39.21), Knutson in the 110 hurdles (12th, 16.21), Wakeman in the 100 hurdles (16th, 16.71), junior Abasiri Ikedinachukwu in the high jump (T11th, 5-8), senior Daniel Olson in the pole vault (12th, 10-0), junior Joseph Casey in the pole vault (16th, 9-6), Schroeder in the long jump (12th, 19-07), sophomore Jarod Henderson in the shot put (16th, 42-03) and the discus (T14th, 121-09), senior James O'Neal in the discus (12th, 125-05) and Gustin in the discus (T14th, 121-09).
