Tanner Burggraaff was representing the Prior Lake boys golf team in the final round of Section 2AAA play June 5.

The senior needed to go low for a shot at a state berth, but instead shot an 86 at the Ridges of Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan.

The Section 2AAA field is very strong. The winning team qualifies for the Class 3A state field, along with the top-five individual not on the advancing squad. Burggraaff shot a 5-over-par 77 opening round to qualify for round two.

Burggraaff's 36-hole total of 163 put him 12 shots off the final state spot, so Burggraaff would have needed to shot 72 in the final round to get into a playoff.

Minnetonka won the team title with a 36-hole total of 591 (295 and 296). Chaska was second at 603 (305 and 298), while Waconia shot 609 (308 and 301) and Chanhassen was at 615 (313 and 302).

Prior Lake had a team score of 323 in the first round May 31, which placed the Lakers eighth out of 12 teams. The top-four teams advance to the final round. Individuals not on the advancing teams needed to shot 79 or lower in round one to qualify for round two.

The last individual Prior Lake golfer to make state was in 2012. The Lakers won the Section 2AAA title in 2010.
