A dominant defense helped the Prior Lake boys lacrosse team win the state title last year.

And defense led the way in the second-seeded Lakers' first playoff game this season, a 10-2 home win over seventh-seeded Apple Valley June 2 in the Section 6 quarterfinals.

Prior Lake (11-3 overall) led 4-0 after the first quarter and was up 8-2 going into the final frame to earn its fourth straight win. Senior Carter Collins led the offense with three goals and two assists.

Prior Lake will take on sixth-seeded Bloomington Jefferson (8-6) in the semifinals June 6 at Burnsville High School at 5:30 p.m. The other semifinal features top-seeded Eastview (14-0) against fourth-seeded Edina (6-8) at 7:30 p.m.

The winners play for the title June 8 in Burnsville. For complete brackets, go to www.mshsl.org.
