The Prior Lake boys and girls golf teams faced a tough field in the first round of Section 2AAA playoff May 31.

The Laker boys had one score in the 70s in the first round at the Ridges of Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan. Senior Tanner Buggraaff carded a 77 to qualify for round two, which is June 5 at the same venue.

The top-four teams advanced to the final round, along with teams within 10 shots of the lead. Individuals not on the advancing teams needed to be within five shots of the fifth-best score, excluding players on the first-place squad, to advance.

So 79 was the cut for individuals not on the four qualifying teams. Seniors Jack Koenig and Quinn Taney missed it by two shooting 81s. Sophomore Jack Thiabault finished with 84 for the Lakeres, while sophomore Carter Taney had 85 and senior Michael Ruelle shot 88.

Prior Lake ended up with a team total of 323, which placed the Lakers eighth out of 12 teams. The top-four teams were Minnetonka (296), Chaska (305), Waconia (308) and Chanhassen (313).

Meanwhile, the Prior Lake girls ended up 10th with a 390 total. The top-four girls teams were Chanhassen (337), Minnetonka (343), Orono (349) and Shakopee (359). The individual cut was 82.
