The Prior Lake boys and girls cross country teams ran their first 5,000-meter race Sept. 7 at Gale Woods.

Senior Nicholas Kartschoke had a strong showing for the Laker boys, taking third overall out of 138 runners at Bauman-Rovn Invitational, while sophomore Mallory Stach led the girls squad with an eighth-place showing out of 108 competitors.

The Prior Lake boys finished eighth in the team standings with 204 points. Fifth-ranked Eden Prairie was tops in the 16-team field with 83 points, followed by No. 11 Chanhassen (96), Hopkins (99), Buffalo (108) and No. 2 Edina (146).

On the girls side, Prior Lake ended up ninth out of 15 teams with 214 points. Fifth-ranked Marshall won the crown (57), followed by No. 4 Willmar (80), No. 6 Eden Prairie (102), No. 2 Minnetonka (123) and Lakeville South (134).

Both Prior Lake teams will run in the Hutchinson Invitational Sept. 14 at Lake Marion Park at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, Kartschoke finished with a time of 16:34.88 at the invite. The winning time was 16:08.47 by Buffalo's Isaac Basten, who is ranked No. 9 in the latest Class AA individual poll.

Stach finished with a time of 19:37.00 with the top run coming from Liesl Paulson of Eden Prairie (18:46.62).

Other finishers for the Prior Lake boys: senior Hayden Olson (29th, 17:24.71), ninth-grader Kyle Nordling (51st, 17:48.13), junior Chase Hebel (61st, 18:02.62), sophomore Shane Draginis (73rd, 18:15.88), senior Ben Seme (95th, 18:38.21) and ninth-grader JT Fier (98th, 18:46.42).

Other finishes for the Laker girls: ninth-grader Kathryn Nollette (24th, 20:28.32), ninth-grader Olivia Zastrow (37th, 21:05.62), junior Nicole Kelley (66th, 21:53.69), ninth-grader Katherine Kaisersatt (83rd, 22:45.76), ninth-grader Ella Fitterer (90th, 23:19.25) and ninth-grader Madaline Reckmeyer (93rd, 23:30.94).

The Laker boys will compete in the Blaze Invitational Sept. 21 at Nicollet Junior High School in Burnsville at 3:30 p.m. The Laker girls are in the Milaca Mega Meet Sept. 23 at Stones Throw Golf Course at 10 a.m.
