The Prior Lake boys soccer team needed overtime to stay perfect in the South Suburban Conference.

Senior Jordi Herrera-Herrera scored in the 89th minute with junior Jake Leonard assisting in the Lakers' 2-1 South Suburban Conference home win over Lakeville Noth Sept. 14.

Prior Lake (5-2 overall) went to 3-0 in the SSC with its fourth straight win. The Lakers have 19 goals in their past four games.

“We’ve been working hard on playing together and playing as a team and I think it’s starting to show,” Lakers coach Mike Shebuski said. “This group of guys is good on their own, but when they play together they’re fun to watch. It’s exciting to see how many different players are contributing in all parts of the game right now.

“In my opinion, that shows we’re starting to understand that things are a lot more fun when we play together,” Shebuski added. “Our work defensively as a team is just as important as our work through the middle and in the final third, and there are a number of good things happening all over the field that contribute to the team’s success over the last few games.”

Last year, Prior Lake finished second to Lakeville North in the SSC standings with a 7-1-1 mark, compared to the Panthers' 8-0-1 record.

The Lakers are back on the field Sept. 16 at Chaska in a battle of Section 2AA foes at 11 a.m. Prior Lake returns to SSC action Sept. 19 at Farmington at 7 p.m.

In the win over Lakeville North, Prior Lake trailed 1-0 at the break. Senior Logan Weller tied the game up with a goal two minutes into the second half. Senior Daniel Wee had the assist.

Senior Ethan Derks made five saves in goal for the Lakers.

Through seven games, Weller is leading the Lakers with eight goals. DiGrado has four goals and two assists, while Leonard has three goals and three assists and Wee and Herrera-Herrera each have two goals and three assists.

Derks had a 0.96 goals-against average, starting all six games in net.
