Tough Losses for Kickers

The good news for the Prior Lake girls soccer team is it's already matched its entire offensive output from last year.

The bad news is the Lakers are mired in a four-game losing streak, falling to 0-2 in the South Suburban Conference with a 4-3 home loss to Rosemount in overtime Sept. 12.

Last year, Prior Lake scored just nine total goals in its five-win season. The Lakers already have nine goals through six games this fall, but the better offense has not yet reflected in their overall record (1-5).

Prior Lake went into the game with Rosemount off a 3-2 loss at Eden Prairie Sept. 9 in a battle of Section 2AA foes and a 5-0 loss at No. 8-ranked Burnsville in the SSC opener Sept. 7.

The Lakers will go for their first SSC win Sept. 14 at home versus Lakeville North at 7:30 p.m. Prior Lake is at Chaska Sept. 16 in a battle of Section 2AA foes at 1 p.m.

In the loss to Rosemount, Prior Lake never led in the game, trailing 2-1 at the break and 3-2 in the second half. The Lakers tied the game up with three minutes to play, but the Irish scored early in the extra session to pull out the win.

Junior Reagan Dahl had two goals for Prior Lake, while sophomore Calyn Schanzenbach scored once. Seniors Gwen Anderson and Jadin Heilmann and ninth-grader Katie Trachsel each had assists.

Sophomore Katarina Decaroli made four saves in goal.

In the loss to Eden Prairie, the Lakers were down 3-0, before scoring two goals before halftime. But the game stood at 3-2 the entire second half.

Dahl and senior Hannah Caldwell had the goals for the Lakers, while sophomore Emma Antonoplos had two assists. Senior Leah Pavlish made three saves in goal.

Against Burnsville, the Lakers were down 2-0 at the break and gave up three goals in the second half. Decaroli made five saves in goal.
