The Prior Lake football team finished the regular season with four straight wins and with that came the top seed.

The Lakers (5-3 overall) earned the No. 1 spot in Section 3, Class 6A and will open the playoffs at home versus eighth-seeded White Bear Lake (0-8) Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.

Top-ranked Eden Prairie (8-0) earned the No. 1 seed in Section 6, while fifth-ranked St. Michael-Albertville (7-1) is the top seed in Section 5 and Cretin-Derham Hall is No. 1 in Section 4.

Cretin-Derham Hall got a bye in the first round because there are only 31 teams in Class 6A. For complete 6A playoff brackets, click here.

Prior Lake may have earned the No. 1 seed in Week 7 (Oct. 13) with its 8-0 win at Lakeville North, ranked No. 9 at the time. The Lakers needed to follow that big win in their final regular season game and did so with a 27-7 victory at Eastview Oct. 18.

Meanwhile, Lakeville North (5-3) earned the No. 2 seed in Section 3, followed by Rosemount (5-3), Lakeville South (3-5), Eastview (2-6), Burnsville (2-6), Farmington (2-6) and Eagan (1-8).

Section 4 seeds after Cretin-Derham Hall went to (in order): Roseville (6-2), Totino Grace (5-3), Mounds View (3-5), Woodbury (4-4), East Ridge (2-6) and Stillwater (2-6) .

Other Section 5 seeds after St. Michael-Albertville (in order): Centennial (7-1), Maple Grove (5-3), Blaine (5-3), Champlin Park (4-4), Anoka (0-8) and Forest Lake (2-6).

Other Section 6 seeds after Eden Prairie (in order): Minnetonka (7-1), Edina (6-2), Shakopee (4-4), Robbinsdale Armstrong (5-3), Wayzata (2-6), Buffalo (4-4) and Hopkins (1-7).

A potential second-round matchup for Prior Lake could be Blaine, ranked No. 9 in the latest Class 6A poll. Last year, the Bengals beat the Lakers 21-17 at home in the second round of 6A playoffs to deny Prior Lake a spot in the state quarterfinals.

Blaine has to get past Robbinsdale Armstrong in the first round this year to face the Lakers in a state-qualifying game. Prior Lake would have to fall flatter than flat against winless White Bear Lake to not advance to the second round.

Against Eastview, the Lakers started a little sloppy, turning the ball over three times in the first quarter and getting behind 7-0.

But Prior Lake recovered, getting three touchdown runs from junior Spencer Shaver before the half. The first one came from 15 yards out in the first quarter, followed by 1-run scoring runs in the second quarter.

Sophomore Dylan Bair iced the game with a 40-yard punt return in the fourth quarter for a score.
