Spikers Set for Postseason

It's Section 2AAA title defense time for the Prior Lake volleyball team.

The No. 7-ranked Lakers wrapped up the regular season Oct. 17, sweeping Burnsville on the road in South Suburban Conference play (25-12, 25-20, 25-22).

Prior Lake finished 6-3 in the SSC, including a home sweep Oct. 12 over Apple Valley (25-10, 25-12, 25-9). The Lakers also won four of five matches to finish third at the Bachman Invitational in Lakeville Oct. 13-14.

Prior Lake (18-10 overall) won its pool with wins over Maple Grove (25-16, 23-25, 15-12), Jackson County Central (24-26, 25-20, 15-8) and Stewartville (25-13, 25-15). The Lakers lost in the semifinals to No. 3 Lakeville South (25-18, 25-20), before beating Marshall for third (27-25, 25-11).

The Lakers earned No. 1 seed in Section 2AAA, followed by second-seeded Eden Prairie (21-5) and third-seeded Shakopee (18-9).

The top-five seeds will get a bye in the first round Oct. 25. The quarterfinals are Oct. 27 with the semifinals Oct. 31. The higher seed is at home in the first three rounds. The title match is Nov. 4 at a site to be determined.

Prior Lake gets the winner of eighth-seeded Hutchinson (16-12) and ninth-seeded Chanhassen (12-14) in the quarterfinals, while Eden Prairie gets the winner of seventh-seeded Chaska (12-14) and 10th-seeded Mankato West (11-12) and Shakopee will face the winner of sixth-seeded New Prague (19-9) and 11th-seeded Mankato East (4-22).

Fourth-seeded Minnetonka (18-9) will face fifth-seeded Waconia (17-11) in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, in the win over Burnsville, senior Haley Stolt led the Lakers with 13 kills, while senior Emma Brostrom had 10 and seniors Kayla Bair and Maddy Bremer both recorded eight.

Junior Katie Brostrom led in set assists with 19, while senior Megan Palmer had 14. Senior CC McGraw led in digs with 11, while Katie Brostrom had six and senior Hannah Reis had five.

Bair had three blocks, while senior Amber Theis had two.

Against Apple Valley, Bremer led the offense with 14 kills, while Bair had 11 and Stolt chipped in six. Katie Brostrom finished with 23 assists.

The Lakers dominated at the service line with Bair getting six aces, followed by Stolt with four and McGraw and Katie Brostrom each with three.

McGraw led in digs with 14, followed by Stolt with nine and Reis with seven. In blocks, Bair led with two.

At the invite, Bair finished with 42 kills in the five matches, adding three ace serves and 14 blocks. Emma Brostrom had 33 kills and six blocks, while Stolt finished with 22 kills, four aces, 31 digs and three blocks. 

Bremer recorded 27 kills and five blocks, while senior Sydney Trees chipped in four blocks and Theis added four kills.

McGraw had 50 digs in the five matches, adding 10 set assists and five aces. Katie Brostrom led in assists with 65, adding six aces and 18 digs, while Palmer had 43 assists, three aces and 14 digs.

Reis finished with three aces and 23 digs, while sophomore Dezirae Spratt chipped in two aces and six digs.
