The Prior Lake dance team ended up in the same spot in the second South Suburban Conference jazz funk meet Nov. 28 at Eastview.

The Lakers were fourth in the 10-team competition, finishing with 9.5 ranking points, which tied Lakeville South. But the Cougars won the tiebreaker.

Eastview took first for a second week in a row with three rank points, while Lakeville North was second again (7.5).

Burnsville finished fifth (15), followed by Apple Valley (20.5), Eagan (23), Farmington (23.5), Shakopee (25.5) and Rosemount (27.5).

The SSC high kick season starts Dec. 5 in Farmington. The second high kick meet is Dec. 12 at Lakeville South. Both start at 7 p.m. The SSC Championships will be held Dec. 16 in Farmington at 11 a.m.

Prior Lake will also be competing in the Chaska Invitational Dec. 2 and the Eastview Invitational Dec. 9.

Eastview, Lakeville North and Lakeville South are all Section 1AAA foes. Prior Lake has qualified for state in jazz funk the last five years, finishing a program-best fifth at state last year.

The top three teams from Section 1AAA make the state field in both jazz and kick. Based on the first two SSC meets, the section competition looks to be a battle for those top three spots with Burnsville also expected to be in the mix.

The Section 1AAA competition is scheduled for Feb. 10 at Bloomington Kennedy.

This year's Class AAA state meet is Feb. 16-17 at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Jazz is the first day, while high kick is the second day. Eastview has won the last two jazz and high kick state titles.

Prior Lake is still seeking its first-ever trip to state in high kick after taking fourth the last two seasons at the section competition.

The Lakers were sixth at state in jazz in 2016, while taking 10th in both 2015 and 2014 and 11th in 2013.
