The Prior Lake dance team moved up in the ranks in the South Suburban Conference.

The Lakers had a strong showing in the second high kick competition Dec. 12 at Lakeville South, finishing third out of 10 teams with eight rank points. Prior Lake was a point shy of second-place Lakeville North, while Eastview won with three rank points.

Lakeville South was fourth (11), followed by Burnsville (15), Farmington (18), Apple Valley (22), Eagan (23), Shakopee (26) and Rosemount (30).

Prior Lake was fourth in the first high kick meet and was fourth in both the SSC jazz funk competitions to open the season.

The SSC Championships are set for Dec. 16 at Farmington at 11 a.m.

Prior Lake also competed in the Eastview Invitational Dec. 9. The field was strong and the Lakers ended up eighth out of 15 teams in high kick with 23 rank points. The host Lightning won (3), followed by Wayzata (6), Lakeville South (12) and Eden Prairie (12).

In jazz funk, Prior Lake was seventh with 20 rank points. Wayzata won (3), followed by Eastview (6), Edina (8.5), Maple Grove (13.5) and Lakeville South (18.5).

Prior Lake starts the New Year competing in the Best of the Best Invitational at the University of Minnesota. The Lakers are in the Edina Invitational Jan. 6, the Bloomington Kennedy Invitational Jan. 13, the Wayzata Invitational Jan 20 and the Eastview Showcase Jan. 20.

The Section 1AAAA meet is Feb. 10 at Kennedy. The top three teams in both jazz and kick make the state field. Prior Lake has qualified five straight years in jazz, finishing a program-best fifth last year.

The Lakers have never made the state field in high kick.

This year's state competition is Feb. 16-17 at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
