The Prior Lake gymnastics team wasn't at full strength at the Shetka Invitational in New Prague Jan. 6.

The Lakers were missing some varsity performers and ended up fourth out of 10 teams with a score of 135.650. Pine Island won the title (141.850), followed by New Prague (141.050) and Edina (135.850).

"We had a very good meet, considering we were down a few of our varsity gymnasts," Lakers coach Barb Kass said. "We had a few gymnasts step up to fill in and they did a great job."

Sophomore Seleena Wallace led the Lakers, finishing second in the all-around with a score of 36.050. She was second on the floor exercise (9.4), fourth on the uneven bars (8.5), fifth on the balance beam (9.0) and sixth on the vault (9.150).

"Beam was tough for us," Kass said. "Only one of our eight competitors, [which includes junior varsity], stuck her routine. Seleena was the gymnast who stuck [her routine] and she went home with quite a few awards. She had a great meet."

Senior Kaylie Kizer had a top-10 finish on the bars, finishing seventh (8.350). Kizer also had a score of 8.950 on the floor and 7.8 on the balance beam.

Eighth-grader Lexi Klugherz also competed in three events, scoring an 8.6 on the vault, 8.550 on the floor and 8.150 on the bars.

Other scores for Prior Lake: eighth-grader Kylie Thompson on the floor (8.550) and the bars (7.550), senior Doris Mor on the vault (8.4) and the beam (7.450), ninth-grader Hannah Walter on the bars (8.050) and the beam (7.250), sophomore Maddie Tschida on the vault (8.450) and the floor (7.2), eighth-grader Gretchen McCann on the beam (8.2) and sophomore Tori Blair on the vault (8.550).

The Lakers are back in action Jan. 11 at Breck in a non-league competition at 6 p.m. Prior Lake is in the Lakeville North Invitational Jan. 13 at 9 a.m.

The Lakers return to South Suburban Conference dual action Jan. 16 at home versus Rosemount at 6 p.m.

Prior Lake's final three SSC meets are: at Eastview (Jan. 23), versus Farmington (Jan. 30) and versus Eagan (Feb. 5).

The Section 2AA meet is set for Feb. 16 at Lakeville South. The field is strong, which includes No. 1-ranked Lakeville North and No. 2 Lakeville South, along with New Prague, Chanhassen, Chaska, Bloomington Jefferson and Bloomington Kennedy.
